少将非常肉质，扁心形的对生叶长3-4.5厘米、宽2-2.5厘米，顶部有鞍形中缝，中缝深07-0.9厘米，无茎或者短时间有茎，两叶先端钝圆，叶浅绿至灰绿色，顶端略红色，表皮摸上去有可能有细小的颗粒感，也可能非常光滑，老株常密集成丛。花多在秋季，在中缝开出，多是黄色(不同品种也有其他颜色)，直径可达3厘米。一般每株只开一朵花，在秋季至冬初阳光充足的白天开放，若遇阴雨天或栽培场所光线不足，则很难开放。
